Friendly News Help the Friends help the Library! The Kilbourn Public Library is very fortunate to have a very active and supportive Friends group. Right now they are busy getting ready for the first book sale of the year. You can help them out by donating your used books, DVDs, videos, audio books and CDs. Drop off your donations at the library. The Friends will take your donations and turn them into funds for the library. The Friends also participate in the Community Dollars program by collecting Zinke's receipts for the library. Just drop off your receipts here at the library. The Friends organize and tally all the receipts, turn them in and receive a check. You can also help out the library if you shop at the Pierce's grocery stores. When you use your Pierce's market club savings card, just ask to have the Friends of the Kilbourn Library as your designated charity. The Friends group uses the money generated to support the library. In the past, funds have been used to sponsor programs, host special events, and purchase materials and equipment for the library. Please help the friends help the library.
Springing Ahead...to SUMMER
Here at the library, the staff is counting the days until summer and getting ready to offer you some awesome summer programs. Here’s a heads up on the fun summery stuff so you can get us on your calendar now! The 2009 Summer Reading Program is for all young people. Starting with the Read-to-Me age through young adult everyone can participate this summer by reading for prizes, specially themed story hours, movies and programs. We have five special performances scheduled for the summer both here and at the Lake Delton school. This year’s theme for the younger children is “Catch the Reading Bug” while teens can participate in a “Metamorphosis at the Library”. Three sessions of the ever popular KPL Day Camp will take place this summer beginning with Candyland in June, Olympic Gold in July and Dog Days of Summer in August. Tuesday Tue-Dos for adults will continue through the summer and we have fun things planned for those second and fourth Tuesdays of the summer months. Every Saturday programming will continue all summer long with two very special Saturdays to start out the summer. Special Summer Signup Days on June 7 here at the library and June 14 at the Lake Delton School will kick off the summer. Look for more information about summer programming in the next few weeks and in next month’s newsletter.

I Swear It's A Good Book
Testimony is Library Book Club Selection for May This month the library book club will be reading Testimony by Anita Shreve. According to the publisher this novel is a gripping emotional drama with the impact of a thriller. This novel takes place at a New England boarding school where a sex scandal is about to break. Even more shocking than the acts themselves is the fact that they were caught on videotape. Through the scandal we see the ways in which lives can be destroyed in one foolish moment and how our best intentions can lead to our worst transgressions. The book club will be meeting to discuss this powerful book on Monday, May 18 at 6:30p.m. and Wednesday, May 20 at 1:30p.m. Join us here at the library or join us by sending a comment to our book club blog. You can access the blog from our library webpage.
Staff Picks This month we are recommending the Maise Dobbs Mysteries by Jacqueline Winspear. Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia by Elizabeth Gilbert is part travelogue, part soul searching and all enjoyable. Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay is a powerful novel about the 1942 Paris roundups of thousands of Jews. And Just Breathe by Susan Wiggs is just a good read.
