We are celebrating at the library in April and for good reason! National Library Week is April 12-18. This year's theme is Worlds Connect @ Your Library and we invite you to come and explore the resources, programming, services and materials available at your library and on your bookmobile. Join us in April and help us celebrate. The library staff has been busy preparing special displays, programming, crafts and contests to commemorate this special week so put the dates on the calendar and stop in and find out all your library has to offer during National Library Week.
National Library Week (April 12-18, 2009)
It's National Library Week, a time to celebrate the contributions of libraries, librarians and library workers in schools, campuses and communities nationwide - and the perfect time to discover how worlds connect @ your library. Everyday, libraries in big cities and small towns, colleges and universities, in schools and businesses help transform their communities. At our library, people of all backgrounds connect for community meetings, lectures and programs, to do research with the assistance of a librarian, to get help finding a job or to find homework help, to read the paper or find the newest book by their favorite author. First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April.
Calling All Artists & Ice Cream Lovers
In celebration of National Library Week the Culver's Restuarants and Wisconsin Library Association are sponsoring a drawing event for children 11 and under. Children can enter the event by picking up a drawing sheet at the library anytime during the month of April. Celebrate your favorite book by drawing a picture about it. It can be a character, event, scene or anything you liked about the book. Every child who completes a drawing will receive a coupon for free frozen custard. They will also be entered into a random drawing to win additional prizes from Culver's including a Culver's kickball or a Culver's Play-On activity book. Pictures will be displayed at the library and at the Wisconsin Dells Culver's on Broadway throughout the month. Drawings for the additional prizes will be held the first week in May. Pick up your entry sheet today. I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!
April Showers Bring...Fun
Every Tuesday and Wednesday will feature a story hour beginning at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday mornings are right here at the library and Wednesday mornings are at Marshall Hall in Lake Delton. Marshall Hall is located next to the Lake Delton Fire Department.

Complete with photos, case histories, eyewitness accounts, ghost lore, and directions, this presentation encourages you to visit these places for your own ghost story. Chad Lewis is a Paranormal Researcher and author. Chad has trekked across the world in search of paranormal and brings over 12 years of research to his presentations. He is also the co-author of The Road Guide to Haunted Locations series. This free program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library and Dells Country Historical Society. Refreshments will be served.
Truck Along With the Book Club
The book we have chosen for April’s book read is the 2007 Banta Award Winner, Truck, A Love Story by New Auburn, Wisconsin author Michael Perry. The Banta Award is the highest literary achievement by a Wisconsin author and is chosen by the Literary Awards Committee of the Wisconsin Library Association. On the surface, Perry’s tale of restoring his 1951 pickup truck is both hilarious and heartfelt as we encounter the quirky yet endearing folks of New Auburn, Wisconsin. This book delivers a truckload of humor, heart and ...gardening tips? Perry lovingly portrays the people and places of his daily life, paying homage to small town America and to love found unexpectedly and all it brings. We will be meeting to discuss the book on two different occasions to try to accommodate everyone’s schedule. You are welcome to join us either Monday, April 27 at 6:30 p.m. or Wednesday, April 29 at 1:30 p.m. Extra copies of the book are available here at the library, Pick up a copy and join us for treats and what we hope will be an engaging discussion. For more information about the book club call the library.
