Awesome August Activities

Saturday Library Activities are always fun and our awesome August activities are no exception.  August is also one of those special months with 5 Saturdays - which means one extra Saturday of library fun.

We start out the month on:

Saturday, August 1 at 10 a.m. at the library with an Inventor’s Day.  Our special guest inventor will be WDHS English teacher Dave Jisa who has created a game called Roll-It : Tic-Tac-Toe.  Everyone has played Tic-Tac-Toe but Jisa’s game gives the classic a new twist by adding dice to it. Jisa, who has been teaching students in the Dells for the past 18 years,  believes in using games in the classroom to help motivate students.

Saturday, August 8 at the Lake Delton School beginning at 10 a.m. we will be celebrating summer.  Join us for summery stories and a fun summer craft.  Have some library fun at this Saturday summer celebration.

Saturday, August 15 is movie day at the library.  Join us at 10 a.m. for the new DVD release Race to Witch Mountain.  Fasten your seatbelts for the thrill ride of your life in this fun family action-adventure.  Join us as we follow the adventures of a struggling taxi driver and two aliens disguised as teenagers who need to recover their lost spaceship and get home. We’ll supply the popcorn!

Saturday, August 22 from 10 am—1 pm is our craft Saturday at the library.  Join us for some culinary fun.  We will be creating funky food edible art for you to take home and enjoy yourself or share with others.  This tasty fun is great for all ages.  Everyone is welcome.

On Saturday, August 29 at 10 a.m. it’s time for 5th Saturday family fun.  We are going to make going back to school a blast.  We will have make and take crafts, games and food to get you in the mood for school.  It’s a Back To School bonanza you don’t want to miss.

Magic, Music & More

On Wednesday, August 5 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lake Delton School the library is proud to be presenting “The Amazing Al”.  Amazing Al will present a humorous hour long magic show with 18 different illusions.  Audience members will be participating in some of these magic tricks and all will be amazed when objects appear and disappear right before their very eyes.  You don’t want to miss this magical experience.

On Thursday, August 13 at 2:00 p.m. at the library we will be making music with musician Billy Grisack.  Billy is a educational Rock & Roll singer, songwriter and performer.  “Let’s Get Creative” is his brand new summer reading concert.  His electric rock & roll style programs are always highly interactive, educational, upbeat and just plain fun. Come to the library and take part in this    musical extravaganza.
Our last  afternoon family program of the summer will be presented by our good friends from Upham Woods.  Join us at the Lake Delton School on Wednesday, August 19 at 2:00 p.m. for a Think Green Creatively program.  You’ll learn about recycling, reducing, and reusing as you participate in the hands on activity of recycled paper making.  Learn how much more fun thinking green can be when you do it creatively.

More Summer to Come

The calendar pages may be moving too fast but summer is not over yet!  We still have a full month of summer programming yet to come.  You read about our August Saturdays and special programs on the front page but don’t forget our weekly events run all through the month of August also.  Charlotte will be presenting special summer library program story hours every Tuesday morning at the library and every Wednesday morning at the Lake Delton school beginning at 10:15 a.m.. There is still a month full of fun for school aged children on Wednesday afternoons at the Lake Delton school and Thursday afternoons at the library.  And don’t forget the special “Be Creative” movies are being shown every Friday at the library.  All afternoon programs begin at 2:00 p.m.

Teens & Tweens

Hey teens - get crazy at the library this month - craft crazy that is!  Join us August 19 at 6:00 p.m. for Craft Craze, a choose-your-own craft adventure.  Multiple craft stations will be set up and you can create the crafts you want.  “Express Yourself @ Your Library” any crazy creative way you see fit.

Kids age 8-12 join us for the final day camp of summer 2009.  Join us as we learn the ins and outs of Crime Scene Investigation.  We will have CSI activities, games, puzzles and food that will bring out the detective in you.  Our CSI day camp will be held August 10, 11 & 12 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m..  Join us one, two or all three days.

Donate Your Used Books

With the end of summer right around the corner, the Friends of the Kilbourn Library are looking forward to our Wo-Zha-Wa book sale.  Now is the time to get rid of those unwanted books and multimedia items by donating them to the library.  All proceeds raised from our book sales help support the library and your donations are greatly appreciated.  Drop off your donations at the library during our normal library hours.

Express Yourself

Express Yourself @ Your Library is our program just for teens. Teens going into 7th grade through 12th grade can register for the Express Yourself Reading Club to win prizes and enter for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate. Teens can also participate in the Teen Read Blog 09.

Sail Away With a Good Book is this summer's reading program just for adults. Adult can share in the summer reading fun by keeping track of the books you read all summer to win prizes. Your name will also be entered into a grand prize drawing to be held at the end of the summer. Who says summer can't be fun for grownups too!

Summer Read

Can You Keep a SecretThe Kilbourn Public Library book club has chosen the perfect end of summer read for it’s August selection. We will be reading Judy Blume;s Summer Sisters.  Blume, who is best known for her young adult novels, has written a story of two girls from very different backgrounds and the coming of age summer they share. Their story will play with your emotions and leave you wanting to know more. This book will take you back to your own childhood summers and will remind you of how strong the bond of friendship can be.  We will be meeting to discuss this book on Monday, August 24 at 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday, August 26 at 1:30 p.m.  Join us as we bid adieu to summer with this touching book.
