Community Tree Lighting

Christmas Tree

We don’t know how it got here so quickly but the holiday season is upon us.  The Kilbourn Public Library and bookmobile will be closed several days at different times during the next couple months.  Make note of the schedules below:

The holiday season will officially begin here at the library Saturday, December 6. That evening at 5:30 p.m., join in the community-wide holiday kickoff with the lighting of the community holiday tree behind the library. The official community tree was planted two months ago in preparation for this event. This special tree lighting is sponsored by the Dells Country Historical Society. The high school choir will be performing holiday music selections. There will be a reading of Twas the Night Before Christmas, hot apple cider to warm you up, and of course Santa Claus will make an appearance. Plan to attend this special community event.

Literacy Council Book Drive

The Wisconsin Dells Literacy Council needs your help to make the holidays a little more special for area children. Donate your new or gently used children’s books and the Literacy Council and the St. Vincent de Paul Society will distribute the books to needy children in the area. Books can be dropped off here at the library anytime on or before December 17. What a great way to share the holiday spirit and give the gift of reading to children! The literacy council is a great organization that provides a tremendous service to the community. Besides their annual book drive, the literacy council also donates books to new mothers from the area, provides tutoring for area adults who need help with reading or English as a second language, supports the library with literacy materials, holds training and classes for tutors and students and provides a language learning lab here at the library. Currently the literacy council is looking for new members to act as tutors or to serve on the board. Call the library if you are interested. We will let you know how you can join and make a difference in someone’s life and a difference in the community.

Holiday Readings

This month the Kilbourn Public Library book club is doing something special for the December book club selection. Each member will be choosing from a selection of holiday books that are wrapped in holiday paper. Members will read their chosen book and tell other members about it at the December meeting. Anyone is welcome to join in this holiday book reading. Just stop by the library and pick a book. The only rule is you have to read what you pick unless you have already read it, then you get to pick again. The book club will be meeting on Monday, December 15 at 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday, December 17 at 1:30 p.m. Join us either of these days and hear about the books we read and enjoy some holiday cheer.
