Solving Life's Puzzles @ Your Library

Library Open House Saturday, January 24, 11 am - 1 pm

It’s that time again - library open house time. Join us Saturday, January 24 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for our 3rd annual open house. This year’s theme is “Come Together @ Your Library” and we invite you to come together with family, friends and other community members to celebrate all your library has to offer. Every day your library helps transform our community. People of all backgrounds and ages can come together at the Kilbourn Public Library for programs, to make use of our reference services, search our databases, use our internet computers or browse our books and magazines. Make use of your library to solve the puzzles in your life.

The library’s trained staff can help you utilize the library’s resources to do a research paper, start a new career, learn a new skill, find a new hobby, explore your family history, create a job winning resume, get your kids to read or find a book you will love. There's something for everyone at your public library - join us on January 24 to find your something. The open house will highlight services and programming the library offers now and introduce some new services and programming for 2009. Don’t miss this opportunity to Come Together @ your Library.

Something for Everyone

The Kilbourn Public Library 3rd Annual Open House will have something for everyone. There will be games, make and take crafts, sign up tables, hands on training, a community craft, free giveaways and refreshments. The Open House will also feature information tables about library programming, new listening technologies and the library’s new website. The library board will be on hand to talk about their roles as library trustees and advocates. There will also be an opportunity for you to help us shape the future of your library.

The library board and staff members are working on a strategic plan for the next few years as well as beginning plans for a library addition. Take time to jot down your ideas on our survey. This year we will also have special story readers right off the pages in a book. Don’t be surprised to see the likes of Viola Swamp from the book Miss Nelson Has a Field Day and Ira from Ira Sleeps Over along with other book characters here to read to you. Join us for this very special day, January 24 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Finding a Good Read

Finding Josie

The Kilbourn Public Library Book Club is starting out the year with a book that focuses on the Midwest. This book is author Wendy Bilen’s search into her family history. In Finding Josie, Bilen gives us an illuminating history of her Grandmother and her life as a child in North Dakota and as a farm wife on a dairy farm outside of LaCrosse, Wisconsin. According to the Wisconsin Historical Press this book is more than a memoir or family history but instead a dual story that “illuminates the surprising ways our lives intersect with our ancestors”. Copies of the book are available at the library for all interested readers, whether you attend the discussion or not. The library book club meets the 4th Monday and Wednesday of every month. This month we will be meeting to discuss the book on Monday, January 26 at 6:30 pm and Wednesday, January 28 at 1:30 p.m. New members are always welcome. For more information about the book club come to the Library Open House on Saturday, January 24 any time between 11 am and 1 pm. We’ll also have February’s book available at that time.
