In the Good Old SummertimeIt's finally here - SUMMER! It's the time of year for lemonade stands, family picnics, fishing at the lake, long days at the pool and hanging with family and friends. Here at the library we think it is also a great time to READ! Whether it is a hot summer romance novel, the classic you never took the time to finish or sharing your favorite books with your children, take time this summer to read. We also invite you to take advantage of the reading clubs, day camps and special events and programming at the library this summer. The back page of this newsletter is full of great information about the summer programming for kids and adults. Put us on your calendar and join us. If you can't make it to the library this summer, check out the bookmobile. Our new expanded summer schedule begins Tuesday, June 16. If you can't come to us - we're bringing the library to you. Summer Saturdays Our Saturday programming will continue throughout the summer and we have some great things planned for June. The first two Saturdays in June are our Summer Library Program Kickoff Days. Saturday, June 6, at 10 a.m. here at the library, and Saturday, June 13 at 10 a.m. at the Lake Delton School, we will celebrate the beginning of this year's summer library program "Be Creative @ Your Library". We will have puppet shows, stories, drawing and flannel board poetry. You will also be able to pick up your "Be Creative @ Your LIbrary" drawing contest materials and sign up for the reading club portion of the Summer Library Program. Saturday, June 20 at 10 a.m. is movie day at the library. This month's movie is The Fox and the Child. This semi-real fairy tale is about a young girl and the fox she is determined to befriend. Saturday, June 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. is our craft Saturday. We will be creating fireworks art just in time for 4th of July. All supplies will be provided. Join us Saturdays in June! Library Book Sale
The Friends of the Kilbourn Library will be holding their first book sale of the year this weekend. The sale will be held on Saturday, June 6 in conjunction with the Taste of the Dells / Heritage Days celebration. The sale hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come on down to the book sale and get a taste of all the great items we have for sale and support your library at the same time. We will have a large number of children's and adult books, audiobooks, DVDs, videos and magazines available. We have a large collection of current like new books. Collector and rare books will also be available. Most of the books for the book sale have been donated to the Friends group and all proceeds from the sale are used to support the library. Visit the book sale for great books for a great cause. Summer Programs for All Ages
The 2009 Summer Library program "Be Creative @ Your Library" encourages children to get involved in summer reading fun at the library. Come to the library and explore your creative side and the worlds of music, dance, art, books and more. The Summer Library Program is open to all young people , preschool through young adult, with exciting programs, prize drawings, preschool story hours, story times for primary grade children, a reading club and more. Tuesday morning story hours will be here at the library and Wednesday morning story hours will be at the Lake Delton School. Both days start at 10:15 a.m. Library programs for children in primary to middle grades will be held every Wednesday afternoon at the Lake Delton School and every Thursday afternoon here at the library. The afternoon programs begin at 2:00 p.m. We are also offering six family programs this summer. The first program will be held Thursday, June 25 at 2:00 p.m. at the library. Musician Bill Kehl will be performing "Earth, Music... Magic". This is an animated, fun-filled and dynamic musical experience featuring an exciting collection and demonstration of unique and unusual primitive instruments from all over the world. This interactive and particpatory musical performance features songs, stories and humor. This program will be held in the community cneter room of the Kilbourn Public Library.
Express Yourself @ Your Library is our program just for teens. Teens going into 7th grade through 12th grade can register for the Express Yourself Reading Club to win prizes and enter for a chance to win a $25 gift certificate. Teens can also participate in the Teen Read Blog 09. Three special programs just for teens will be held throughout the summer. Watch for more details. Especially for kids age 8-12 is KPL Day Camp. KPL Day Camp programs are held 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. in the community center room of the Kilbourn Public Library. New this year - no pre-registration is required and you may attend one, two or all three days. The first day camp, Around the World, will be held June 15, 16 and 17. Start out the summer with a trip around the world. Explore our great big wonderful world with crafts, games and food. Sail Away With a Good Book is this summer's reading program just for adults. Adult can share in the summer reading fun by keeping track of the books you read all summer to win prizes. Your name will also be entered into a grand prize drawing to be held at the end of the summer. Who says summer can't be fun for grownups too! Speaking of fun for grownups don't forget our Tuesday Tue-Dos. June 9 at 1:00 p.m., join us for Batik and create a one of a kind design. June 23 at 1:00 p.m. is game day. Reading Secrets
This month the library book club will be reading Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella. According to the publisher Kinsella, the author of the shopaholic trilogy, offers up a delightful new novel, filler with her trademark wit and humor. When her plane experiences horrible turbulence, Emma Corrigan is convinced that she is going to die. She babbles all of her most intimate thoughts and secrets to the handsome American man sitting next to her. But the plane lands safely, and Emma bids himan awkward goodbye. When she enters the office Monday and learns the CEO of the company is in for a visit, Emma is horrified to learn the CEO is the man from the flight. Read this enjoyable book to find out why she can't stop thinking about this man. The book club will be meeting to discuss this humorous and heartwarming book on Monday, June 22 at 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday, June 24 at 1:30 p.m. Join us here at the library for lively discussion or join us by sending a comment to our book club blog.
