We start out the month of March celebrating one of our favorite authors - Dr. Seuss. Dr. Seuss, aka Theodor Seuss Giesel, was born on March 2, 1904. Dr. Seuss published over 60 books including some of our all-time favorites; Green Eggs and Ham, Oh, the Places You’ll Go, Cat in the Hat and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. His books have been translated into more than 15 languages. At the time of his death in1991, over 200 million copies of his books had made their way into the homes and hearts of readers all around the world. Charlotte will be celebrating this special man’s birthday during story hours on Tuesday, March 2 here at the library and Wednesday, March 3 at Marshall Hall in Lake Delton.
Saturday Programs Join us Saturday, March 6 at 10 a.m. for a Puppet Show! Charlotte and her friends will be presenting the puppet show The Mysterious Egg. Will Pig save the abandoned egg before Fox can eat it? Find out just what is inside the mysterious egg! An egg craft will follow the 20 minute performance.
Saturday, March 13at 10 a.m. at the Lake Delton School we have avery special program planned that you won’t want to miss. Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with Irish harp music by Joan Wilcox, Irish stories and a craft.
Saturday, March 20 is Movie Day at the library. Join us for popcorn and the movie Where the Wild Things Are. This movie brings to life Maurice Sendak’s heartwarming children’s book. It is a classic story about childhood and the places we go to figure out the world we live in. The movie starts at 10 a.m. and you don’t want to miss a minute of this great family movie.
Saturday, March 27 at 10 a.m. at the library we are again joining forces with the Stewards of the Dells of the Wisconsin River and artist Ellen McGaughey to hold an art lesson for area youth and adults. Ellen will be teaching drawing skills. Kids can then create an entry for the Wisconsin River Art Contest sponsored by the Stewards. Join us to take advantage of this opportunity to learn new skills from an accomplished artist. All supplies will be provided.
March in for a Tuesday Tue-do! March into the library this month and join in the fun of a Tuesday Tue-Do. We are getting ready for spring with our craft Tuesday Tue-Do this month. Join us on Tuesday, March 9 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. We will be making cards to send to friends and family. We will have the Cricut available again to cut shapes for your cards with special Spring, Easter and Mother’s Day shapes available. Tuesday, March 23 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. join us for a Tuesday Tue-Do gaming day. That’s right a gaming day - we are going gaming with the Wii. The Wii game system has lots of games that are easy to play and fun for all ages. Don’t miss the fun. Tuesday Tue-Do programs are for adults only.
Library Book Club Selection
During the month of March the Kilbourn Library book club will be exploring the world of Jane Austen. Jane Austen was an English novelist whose realism, biting We invite you to read one or more of Jane Austen's books. We have several books available at the library desk for you to choose from including her novels as well as books written about her. Stop by and pick one up today. The book club meets Monday, March 22 at 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday, March 24 at 1:30 p.m. to share our reading experiences. Too busy to make the meetings? The library offers a second way for you to join the book club. Join us from the convenience of your computer. Just visit the library website at dellslibrary.org and click on the link for KPL Reads. Free Computer Classes The Kilbourn Public Library will once again be offering free computer classes.
Tuesday, March 16th 1:00 PM- Introduction to the Personal Computer: A course for those with little or no computer experience. Topics covered include basic computer definitions and concepts (e.g., hardware, software, programs, files, etc.) as well as tips for navigating the Windows environment and managing files on your computer.
Thursday, March 18th , 1:00 PM- Effective Internet Searching with Google: How to get more out of your search: This course will cover tips and tricks for more effective Internet searching using the popular search engine, Google. Some experience browsing the web is preferred.
2010 Children’s Fair Sunday, March 21,11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Chula Vista Resort and Conference center is the site for the 2010 Children’s Fair. The Kilbourn Public Library Bookmobile will be featured at the fair. It is a great opportunity to visit and tour the bookmobile and pick up information about the great activities and programs at the library. Sponsored by the Dells Area Alliance for Young Children, the fair is full of activities geared toward children ages birth to 8 years and their families. This free event will be held Sunday, March 21 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Chula Vista Resort. Come and join in the free hands-on activities, find information about many community resources, visit the bookmobile, enjoy the free food and have fun!
