Pleasantly Puzzled

“Puzzlement”, a sculpture made from recycled materials by Sauk County artist Mona Marks is on display at the Kilbourn Public Library.  It was the 2009 winner of Encore Art!, an exciting show featuring 57 works made of recycled materials.  This show was hosted by the Sauk County Art Association in conjunction with the 2009 Sauk County Earth Day and Energy Fair held at UW Baraboo/Sauk County last April.  “Puzzlement” was created using secondhand puzzles, National Geographic magazines, puzzle boxes, tomato cages, and wire.  Be sure to stop in and see this delightful fantasy figure.   The sculpture is being made available in hopes of inspiring creative reuse of materials by people of all ages.  In addition to the sculpture the library will also have on display and available for checkout books, movies and other materials on recycling, reusing and saving energy.  Among these items is a Kill A Watt electricity usage monitor that can be checked out and taken home to assess the energy efficiency of your home appliances.  Also available are the “PowerHouse” episodes on DVD.  Alliant Energy’s “PowerHouse” is an educational program designed to help you improve the energy efficiency, safety and comfort of your home.  The electricity usage monitor and the “PowerHouse” DVDs were donated to the library by the Alliant Energy company.  Stop in the library and check out our new display.

Tuesday Tue-D0

Catch the spirit of the season with a Tuesday Tue-Do craft day.  Tuesday, October 13 will feature a special Fall Craft.

Library Book Club

The GIrl Who Loved Tom GordonThis month the library book club is reading The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, a book Wikipedia calls “a psychological horror novel”.  It is October after all!  This novel is written by Stephen King, the man known internationally for his contemporary horror fiction books and screenplays.  King has crafted a story about a young girl who gets lost in the woods where her only link to the outside world is her radio and her love of the Boston Red Sox.  This book will hold you captivated until the end.  Join us as we celebrate this haunted month with a book from a world renowned author of the horror genre.  The book club meets the 4th Monday and Wednesday of each month.  New members are always welcome.  We will be meeting Monday, October 26 at 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday, October 28 at 1:30 p.m.

Computer Classes

The library will be offering several sessions of free computer classes beginning later this month.  Topics will include computer basics, search engines, internet basics, Ebay, email and computer troubleshooting.  Call the library for more information and to sign up for these classes.
