Scope out September!
Library Card Sign Up Month is during the month of September. Here at the library wer are inviting everyone to share in the excitement by reminding them that "The Smartest Card is @ your Library"--it's your library card. A library card has always been a free ticket to a vast array of opportunity and resources. There is no other card in your wallet that can give you free access to books and CDs, magazines and movies and other resources that can change your life--or just make it a little more enjoyable. Today that value is greater than ever before. Also, studies show that children who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school and are more likely to continue to use the library as a source of lifelong learning. That makes a library card the smartest school supply of all.
We want to make a library card the most valued and used card in everyone’s wallet. In honor of Library Card Sign-up Month we have set a goal of issuing 100 new cards this month. We will have gift packages for anyone getting a first-time library card. Help us reach our goal by coming in this month and getting yourself the “Smartest Card.”
Make sure you have the “Smartest Card” in your wallet and take advantage of the incredible value your library offers. Have you misplaced your library card? We are offering free replacement cards all month long. To get your new or replacement card just bring in a picture ID and proof of your current address and we will set you up with the “Smartest Card” - Get it . Use it @ your library.

Welcome Jim
Here at the library we are very excited to introduce you to the newest member of the KPL staff, Jim Ramsey. Here’s a little info about Jim in his own words. Hello! My name is Jim Ramsey and I’m originally from Beloit, WI. I earned my BA in history with an emphasis in Russian history from UW-Madison several years ago, and I’m currently finishing up my Masters of Library and Information Studies at Madison. Formerly, I worked in the Circulation Department at the Central Branch of the Madison Public Library and in the Reference Department at UW’s Memorial Library. My wife and I live in Madison, so I have a little bit of a commute; needless to say, I’m discovering the wonders of audio books! I like to read almost anything, but my favorite topic is history, especially the history of Russia. I very much look forward to working here and learning more about the community. Feel free to stop by and say “hi” if you see me at the desk!

Remember the Book CLub
The Kilbourn Public Library book club selection for September is the non-fiction book The Woman Who Can’t Forget but Jill Price. Price has been known to scientists only as AJ, a woman with a memory so unprecedented they had to coin a term for it: hyperthymestic syndrome. With this book, she comes out publicly for the first time to discuss her condition. Not only is Price powerless to stop remembering, but each memory brings with it an emotion every bit as potent as it was the first day she had it. That means constantly reliving not just the good times, but the painful times as well. The Woman Who Can’t Forget is the beautifully written and moving story of Jill’s quest to come to terms with her extraordinary memory. We will be meeting on Monday, September 28th at 6:30 pm and Wednesday, September 30th at 1:30 pm to discuss this book. Join us!
