In November we will be discussing the UW Go Big Read 2021/2022 book selection Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi. Gyasi’s novel follows the story of Gifty, a PhD candidate in neuroscience studying reward-seeking behavior in mice and the neural circuits of depression and addiction, which have impacted her personally. Gifty is determined to discover the scientific basis for the suffering she sees all around her. Transcendent Kingdom is a deeply moving portrait of a family of Ghanaian immigrants ravaged by depression and addiction and grief. It is a novel about faith, science, religion and love. Join us to discuss this powerful book on Monday, November 29 at 5:30 pm or Wednesday, December 1 at 1:30 pm.  The  Go Big Read common book program is designed to unite UW-Madison and local communities by generating discussions and exchanges of diverse ideas that are explored in the chosen books. Go Big Read!
