For October's book discussion we will be diving into the 2018 Go Big Red selection: The Death and Life of the Great Lakes by Dan Egan. This book explores the Great Lakes which includes Erie, Huron, Michigan, Ontario, and Superior. Egan explains how these lakes are facing a severe threat from human activity and are turning into an environmental catastrophe. This book blends the epic story of the lakes with an examination of the perils they face and ways we can save our largest source of freshwater for future generations. Go Big Red started 10 years ago and has grown to be one of the largest college common reading programs. It has joined UW-Madison and local communities in reading and discussing timely topics, all with a goal of gaining a better understanding of each other and the issues. We will discuss this book on Monday, October 29th at 6:30pm and Wednesday, October 31st at 1:30pm. If you cannot make it in person please use the online blog at kplbookclub.blogspot.com.
