In April the Book Club will be reading Jesse Burton's The Miniaturist. Burton's story is set in seventheenth century Amsterdam and follows the path of Nella Oortman who moves to the city with her husband, Johannes Brandt, who is a wealthy merchant. But Nella's world changes when Johannes presents her with an extraordinary wedding gift: a cabinet-sized replica of their home. To furnish her gift, Nella engages the services of a miniaturist--an elusive and enigmatic artist whose tiny creations mirror their real-life counterparts in eerie and unexpected ways. Join us in April in reading and discussing this haunting and magical page turner. We will meet at the library for conversation and snacks on two occasions in April:
