How Minds Change by David McRaney

This month's selected book is a "brain-bending investigation of why some people never change their minds - and others do in an instant." When the author began a book about how to change someone's mind in one conversation, he never expected to change his own. This book explores the limits of reasoning, the power of group think, and the effects of deep canvassing. Told with McRaney's trademark sense of humor, compassion, and scientific curiosity, its an eye-opening journey among cult members, conspiracy theorists, and political activists. This book is also the choice for the UW-Madison common book program, Go Big Read. The Go Big Read Program engages members of the campus community and beyond in a shared, academically focused, reading experience. We will be discussing this book twice in the month of November: Monday, November 27 at 5:30 pm and Wednesday, November 29 at 1:30 pm.
